Lucy Sutton MSc MSP

Lucy is now an independent consultant. Previously, she has held a variety of national and regional roles setting up services for patients and developing the policy to support this. Most recently Lucy worked as National End of Life Care Lead for Health Education England on secondment. Her substantive post was with NHS England as Associate Director for the Clinical Networks and Clinical Senate in Wessex. Prior to this she was the Associate Director for End of Life Care across NHS South of England and before that Director of Policy Development at the National Council for Palliative Care covering the UK and was greatly involved in writing the national End of Life Care Strategy.

She has written a number of publications and training tools, to help make policy practical. These include developing a nationally recognised end of life care pathway for people with neurological conditions, Out of the Shadows which provides tips on caring for people with dementia, other publications focus on respiratory disease (COPD), older people, caring for people with multiple morbidities amongst other areas. Lucy also wrote the training tool for end of life care, Care to Learn which is used widely throughout the UK. Policy areas Lucy has contributed to include the National Service Framework for Long Term Neurological Conditions,  COPD Strategy, Health White Paper and Dementia Strategy.

Lucy is a nurse by background, having trained at Guys Hospital, London. She continues to work clinically at weekends.
